OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced their NCAA Division III National Players of The Week. James Sill was recognized as the National DIII Rookie of the Week for baseball.
In a press release from the NCBWA, the following was shared, "First-year designated hitter James Sill helped his team collect three Skyline wins. Sill went 10-for-18 (.556) at the plate over four games against UMSV and Mount Saint Mary College (New York) with 12 RBI, nine runs scored, and five home runs. Sill broke the first-year program record for most home runs with nine. He was 5-for-9 with seven RBI, five runs scored, and three home runs in Sunday's doubleheader with Mount St. Mary and went 4-for-9 with five RBI, four runs scored, and two homers the day before in a twin bill with UMSV. Sill was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week."
The NCBWA was founded in 1962 and is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates, and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year, and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication contests, and writing contests.
This week's NCBWA other honorees included Clarence Givhans as hitter of the week from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, fellow Skyline Conference player Tyler Reistetter as pitcher of the week from the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
